NEW GUY’S IN TOWN - -

By Jerry Curl

The Men's Social Network organization began in March as an effort to provide an extended gay family in Tucson for men of all ages.  New friendships are being rapidly formed as a result of this new group.

It was initiated as a result of a recognized need for an inclusive social organization for men of all ages.  A Steering Committee of five members representing the age decades of 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's and 60+ serves as the planning group, but individual members are encouraged to commit to the success of the organization.  The Steering Committee has been delighted by the rapid success of the group which had 55 paid members by April 15, just 1 and 1/2 months into its active life.

The monthly social potluck gatherings are held on the first Saturday night of each month at 7PM and are initially scheduled at the Cornerstone Fellowship Church at 2902 N. Geronimo.  The group is not connected to the church, but is renting space in the social hall.

There is at least one scheduled social event each week and this provides fellowship centered around a variety of activities including video nights, bowling, hiking, dinners, pool parties, picnics, card games, board games, and even includes a forthcoming one day excursion by van to Magdelena, Mexico.

New arrivals in town have been fascinated by this means of building an instant social circle of supportive friends.  Members have commented about the positive attitudes and energy being experienced within the group.
